When I went to the Philadelphia Museum of Art last Spring to see the Dali exhibition, there was a new acquisition in the gallery that I was really impressed by. It's called Mermaid by Edvard Munch.
The painter of "The Scream" produced this work in 1896 for the doorway of a home of a wealthy Norwegian patron. Seeing it in a photograph doesn't do it's justice. The subtle blue is quite stunning in person.
Mermaid by Edvard Munch.
Acquired by the PMA in 2003, a new exhibit on the Mermaid including over twenty drawings and paintings chronicling the creation of the Mermaid piece along with other works central to its theme will be on display. It runs from Sept.24th- Dec.31st 2005.
