Finnegan is ok

Finn had a kidney infection but is recovering nicely. The vet says he is getting back to normal , and I'll be able to bring him home tomorrow. The antibiotics and fluids helped him. We went to see him at lunch time- he was happy to see us and appreciated the attention. He looked a little sad that he wasn't going home today but tomorrow he'll be back with Baxter again.

Finn update

The vet called this morning and said he seemed to be responding to treatment and was a bit feisty this morning...which means he was probably in a mood with strangers and swatting at them. ...which is good news since Sunday he was barely moving. He'll stay at the vet's through tomorrow and they'll do more bloodwork to see if the antibiotics and fluids are helping.

Finnegan...

Finnegan isn't doing so well. Over the weekend, he suddenly became gradually lethargiic. His appetite, always good, dropped off and he wanted no hay, pellets, or greens. We made sure he took water using a syringe , and Sunday night he perked up a little nibbling on some lettuce. His hopping had slowed a bit. But he definitely needed to go to the vet.

In his younger days, he was prone to stomach blockage due to furballs , but has been feeling good for months, so his crashing like this was sudden and unexpected.
Fortunately, we go to a marvelous vet who really understands Rabbit health well. Some tests were done and no, it wasn't stomach blockage but his kidneys and liver aren't doing so well. It could be a virus. So he is staying overnight at the vet at least until Wednesday to see if some antibiotics and some saline can bring him back.

I hope it does.

One of the most famous photos in Americans Presidential elections. November 3,1948 Harry Truman won the Presidency much to the surprise of pollsters. The heavily Republican Chicago Tribune printed its first edition a little ahead of actual results. At a St. Louis train station the paper was handed to Truman, who posed with it and said "That ain't the way I head it!".

Fuego En La Sangre!

Hi. remember me? I used to blog here a lot but then I tended to neglect this little page, when I really shouldn't. But I've been a bit busy with my job, keeping my health up, and doing a few other creative projects with my free time. Mrs. P. is well and usually each night is watching her favorite telenovela , "Fuego en la Sangre". It runs until this October, and she's been watching it since it debuted in January. The plot at the heart of it is the love story between Juan and Sofia. I translate with the closed captioning on when I can, but it's pretty obvious to understand what is happening with their tendency for over-acting. Several familiar faces from Mrs. P's last telenovela favorite La Madrastra are in this one as well. Even Finn and Baxter watch it with her. Finnegan likes the guitar theme and usually flops by the tv when he hears it.

Celebrity Deaths...

Nothing like a big batch of celebrity deaths to rouse me from not blogging. Since I am a big fan of pop culture, within the last week several individuals have died and their contributions to the arts made me reflect on the talent that has left us. Some were bigger names than others but I have to mention them here.

Harvey Korman died today at age 81. Harvey was a cast memeber of The Carol Burnett Show from 1967-1978 and along with Tim Conway created so many moments of great television comedy.he won 4 emmys. I think the audience enjoyed Harvey Korman laughing and enjoying himself so much during the show. But he displayed what a good comic actor which also led him to work with Mel Brooks in several films. His best,"Blazing Saddles" , playing evil Hedley Lamarr. He also appeared in High Anxiety and History of the World Pt.I for Brooks. His telelvision work included the voice of The Great Gazoo in The Flintstones.

Sydney Pollack, film director and actor made some of the biggest movies in Hollywood over the last 30 years like "The Way We Were ", "Out of Africa", Tootsie" and was a producer for "Cold Mountain, The Talented Mr. Ripley" He also was a decent actor appearing in "Michael Clayton" "Husbands and Wives ""Tootsie" and "Eyes Wide Shut".

Dick Martin died at age 86 last weekend. Martin the comic to Dan Rowan's straight man were a big hit in nightclubs in the 1950's and by the 60's were part of tv variety shows. In 1968 they were the hosts of "Rowan and Martin's Laugh -In", a show unlike any other variety program at the time. After Laugh-In and Dan Rowan retired, Dick Martin went on to become a talented director of television.

And then there are musicians whose impact on television remain fixed in our memories 40-50 years later...

Earle Hagen wrote the memorable themes to The Andy Griffith Show, That Girl, Gomer Pyle USMC,The Mod Squad, I Spy,and The Dick Van Dyke Show.

Alexander Courage wrote the soaring theme to Star Trek and scored episodes of Lost in Space, Land of the Giants, Daniel Boone, Falcon crest, Eight is Enough and many more.

Joseph Pevney directed 14 episodes of the original Star trek series, including some of the very best "City on the Edge of Forever" and "The Trouble with Tribbles" also a prolific television director with many credits his motion picture work included " Man of a Thousand Faces" the biography of silent star Lon Chaney with James Cagney doing a superior job in the lead role, and "Tammy and the Bachelor" a popular hit for Debbie Reynolds.

Will Elder died May 17th, one of the original artists of Mad Magazine, his detailed cartooning was always a pleasure to see.His parody of Superman -Superduperman remains funny five decades later. His subersive wit went along with some beautiful artwork. He also created the sexy "Little Annie Fanny" for Playboy magazine which featured it from 1962-1988.

Clearing the Bases...

Where have I been? I get e-mails from friends asking that. Where have I been? The horrible illnesses that clung to me all winter have finally disappeared. The sometimes feelings of nothing exciting to say creeps in and lingers about. I try hard to snap out of it.

There's always the trivial- Today is the 100th anniversary of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" written by Jack Norworth after being inspired by the sign "Baseball today-Polo Grounds" from his subway car. Set to music by Albert Von Tilzer it was a big hit in 1908 and remains an American classic.

Of course my favorite version of the song came in 1955 with Harpo Marx performing it on "I Love Lucy"

I haven't been to a ball game yet this year, The Phillies ended April in first place though which is surprising for fans around here.

The bunnies are all doing well and Monday Bunday will start showing up again.
Mrs. P. is excited about tomorrow's Kentucky Derby. Her love of horse racing has replaced her lighthouse obsession I think. Anyway, we'll watch the race and have mint juleps, and hopefully I'll pick the trifecta like I did last year.

I hope to start writing again, and reconnect with some blog friends who I've kind of vanished from their lives for awhile.

Winter Illness

I'm sorry this blog hasn't been updated much over the last month, the last two weeks I've had some terrible bronchitis, bad enough to get me to a doctor, and just the general never-ending cold that always happens to me in winter. If I had my choice I would be living in a warmer climate. Oh well, Spring is here almost, and yes the Bunnies are excited as usual about delivering easter baskets.

A nice gift...

This lovely little bunny statue was a gift to Maria and I from Anne Marie, one of mrs. Pratt's friends from her knitting group. We love it, and has a nice place near other bunny related things we have. It looks like a member of our rabbit family! Thank you Anne Marie!

OUCH

I had a computer virus last week, and it was really messing up my programs so I decided to do a system recovery. But being the technological equivalent of a bad Jerry lewis movie, I did one that wiped out all my photo files. Fortunately, my wife has a lot of bunny photos saved on her laptop, but I fear quite a few are gone for good. I'm very glad I didn't scrap this page last year, or else I'd have even less.

Junk in the Trunk...

On New Year's Day, all the bunnies had a "salon" treatment. We brushed them , clipped their nails, just made sure they are ok, health wise. We noticed Baxter had a small growth in her ear, and due to her size she has had a little trouble treaching it with the back foot. So off to the vet she went today. The ear wax was taken care of, but Baxter is now on a diet. She weighed in at 8 and 1/4 pounds! Even Greyton at his bulkiest wasn't that heavy. So she needs to lose 2 pounds by next month's weigh-in. Bunny fit Club indeed.

All the bunnies eat well, and we really don't give them too many treats, but each has their own relationship with food. Ollie takes his time with pellets and greens but doesn't over do it. He's maybe gained a pound or so since we adopted him but he is active and healthy. Twizzle prefers a big pile of hay and his greens to pellets so isn't the pellet hound that Baxter seems to be. Baxter will sometimes ignore her greens for a bowl of pellets. Finnegan's big treat is banana chips. He gets one every other day or so, he eats his food in moderation too and isn't bad.

But Baxter loves to sit near her bowl, which she shares with Finnegan. So now she is rationed to have a cup a day, and more emphasis on the hay and veggies...and definitely no treats.

We love our rabbits, but don't want them to endanger their health. So Baxter's new year's resolution is to slim down a bit.

Here we go...

You know when you go on an amusement park ride and somebody on the ride will say just as the machinery starts up, "Here we go....", well this is how I feel as I return to writing, hopefully on a daily basis. I'm glad I never completely deleted this page.

Several years ago this used to be my main creative outlet and I thought I would blog forever, but then I became involved in other creative outlets and let this slide, but I look forward to beginning again, a fresh start with the New Year.

New Year's was a quiet one. A little dinner, some champagne and a midnight carrot for the rabbits. It's been a relaxing week since I've been off work since the 21st, but return tomorrow. Welcome 2008, because the last year was filled with bad health. I want to put that behind me.

I'll probably do some of the usual things I used the blog for. Reporting on what celebrity dies,or silly pop culture milestones, the Monday Bunday updates, the tales of any weirdness that come my way. I hope to build the page up again, where it's a pleasant stop for you online.

Here we go...
